Chapter 6 - Building Your Connected Learning Community

02/15/24

Chapter 6 highlights what is needed to build your own connected learning community, it also offers tips from the author on how to build this successfully. There is also a specific way to nurture someone's personal learning network with things such as watching who you follow, having a clear username that is cohesive with the rest of your accounts, getting ideas from someone who has already done this, and even getting a mentor. When starting to build your own personally connected learning community it must be understood that social media and technology make it so that no matter what you post it's out there forever and you must hold yourself to a higher standard.

This chapter also incorporates how to add the community side into connected learning communities. This chapter explains how to keep your personal learning within the community by incorporating the people and that could lead to both parties making content and even co-creating together. Two other things were mentioned about this that I think are the most important from this section of the chapter, building trust and bringing in other voices. These things are the foundation of our lives and should directly correlate with connecting communities either in person or online.

  1. Hi Emily! I agree how important it is to create a connected learning environment. I also believe this could be very beneficial, but it is important to be safe and ethical when collaborating. I learned it is important to surround yourself with people who also want to grow and learn.
